Founded
in March of 1951, Koenig's Conservation Club Inc. was organized
with specific goals in mind: youth education, species propagation
& habitat maintenance. Through the years Koenig's goals have
been increase and modified to the following: outdoor education,
species propagation, habitat restoration & land acquisition.
This criteria was set up by Koenig's original board members for
the enhancement of the out of doors for outdoor enthusiasts is Sheboygan
County & the State of Wisconsin. With these goals in mind Koenig's
Conservation Club has taken a very active role as caretaker of our
natural resources.
Originally named after the tavern, Koenig's Corner on 29th &
Main Ave. in Sheboygan, where the club was formed, Koenig's Corner
Conservation Club met there for more than 2 decades before moving
its club facilities to Cty Trk PP & EE south of Sheboygan Falls
& renaming the organization to Koenig's Conservation Club. In
the time since the move to this location Koenig's went from a remodeled
one car garage as a club house to a new facility in 1976, which
has since been added to, which houses all of the clubs functions.
Although still in the same location the roadways are now named Hwy
28 & Broadway Ave.
Koenig's, through the hard work and determination of its members,
has a lot of accomplishment throughout the years of which to be
proud. The club has been named Sheboygan County Conservation Club
of the Year numerous times. Many members have been honored as Conservationist
of the Year as well. The Sheboygan County Conservation Hall of Fame
has inducted three Koenig's members, two of whom are the only original
charter members still alive & active. Koenig's can also boast
of being named, in the past, Conservation Organization of the Year
by the Wisconsin Wildlife Federation as well as receiving the Presidents
Award from the National Wildlife Federation. These, along with numerous
awards from the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the
Wisconsin Conservation Congress, reaffirm Koenig's Conservation
Club's commitment to the outdoor community in the area.
Throughout the years the Club has taken on many ongoing projects
that have been maintain for many years. Besides the land that houses
the club grounds, the Club also owns 20 acres adjacent to the Sheboygan
County airport. The Club also acquired 40 acres located in the Sheboygan
Marsh. In addition, the Club constructed and maintains public piers
at the Sheboygan Marsh, Little Elkhart Lake & Gerber's Lake.
Club members also take an active role in the "Adopt a Highway"
clean up program.
Koenig's Conservation Club, and its 60 active members, does not
stand alone. Koenig's takes an active role in the Sheboygan County
Conservation Association and its 32 member clubs. Koenig's is also
affiliated with state groups like Wisconsin Waterfowl Association,
Wisconsin Wildlife Federation in addition to many national groups
like the National Wild Turkey Federation, Pheasants Forever and
the NRA to name a few. The Club limits membership to 60 persons
to insure that all members take an active role in their responsibilities
to the outdoors as set up in the Club by-laws. Despite this membership
limit, there is a list of over 25 persons waiting to join Koenig's
Conservation Club.
Koenig's Conservation Club Inc., committed to serving the outdoor
community for over 50 years as a leader in conservation and through
immeasurable effort and countless projects, will continue to make
a commitment to the State of Wisconsin and Sheboygan County to restore
and maintain our most important resource, the outdoors.
